CAESARS
CAESARS- the very name evokes visions of splendour opulence and majesty. It brings to mind the greatness of the Roman Empire and the excellence demanded by its rulers; it connotes tables overflowing with delicacies and viands from all over the world; it tells people whose cultural standards have yet to be eclipsed. Above all, it speaks of elegance unequalled. The delicious food is prepared to perfection offering something to suit to everyone's palate, choose from Oriental, Chinese, Indian, Western, Continental and Sizzlers. Whether you are visiting the restaurant with family or friends you are assured of a very enjoyable dining experience.

COPPER CHIMNEY
Copper Chimney an oasis of style and fantastic Indian food. When viewed against the starkly bland surroundings of the Al Hambra Hotel in which Copper Chimney sits, this bright eatery seems like an oasis of style in a sea of the mundane. Though its chunky wooden door and colourful blinds are a tad on the holiday camp side, after the walk through the hotel, the clean and simple dining room is as luxurious sight. The unobvious copper theme makes an appearance here too, as your dishes are brought to you in ornate serving dishes, left over tea lights at your table to keep the food warm when you inevitably refill your plate. Soak up the moreish sauce with rich naan bread and let the extremely polite and friendly staff recommend you the saffron and pistachio ice cream.

BEIJING CHINESE RESTAURANT
Set on the coolest strip in Adliya, Beijing Chinese is surrounded by some of the city’s best restaurants and avant garde galleries. Given its location, you’d think the management would have put some effort into this venue, but this Chinese eatery is as uninventive as its name, with very little decor to speak of, and for most of the time no music at all. Luckily, the food doesn’t suffer the same fate. Each dish here is bursting with life and flavour, especially the wonderfully tender sizzling beef, and the vibrant cuttlefish with green peppers and onions. Finish off your fabulous meal with the not-very-Chinese banana cream pie, a surprisingly tasty treat. Beijing Chinese is not the place to take someone you want to impress, but the good food keeps the tables booked.

MEZZALUNA
Mezzaluna has always been highly regarded, but in recent months their Canadian chef has left and has been replaced by a Frenchman – perfect for any reputable restaurant. Despite what people may say against them, the French are the best when it comes to food, and this has clearly travelled a few thousand miles to the middle of Adliya. Mezzaluna is a converted Bahraini house that has a touch of the medieval about it; towering pillars, tables with handcrafted legs, heavy metal cutlery with seahorse tail handles, handcrafted rafters, stone floors and deep red lighting and candles. It’s the stuff Robin Hood is made of. But where the famous outlaw was happy with a bit of bread and a turkey leg for dinner, you should try the crab bisque to satisfy your palate – the fishy aroma hits your nose as fast as the dish hits the table.

UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS
A terrific buzz hits you as you enter Upstairs Downstairs and make your way through the bar to the utterly charming two-floor restaurant. Decorated in traditional English Country House style, it’s like being at a private dinner party hosted by a friend and the ambience is heightened further by enthusiastic staff. The menu is eye-catching international; fajitas, fish cakes, interesting-sounding salads and such, all feature, with vegetarians well catered for. We start with the smoky red bell pepper and tomato soup and a warm goats cheese salad before moving on to a main of leek and bacon mornay. Desserts include tiramisu, cheesecake and a vast cheese board. Orders tend to be generously sized and agreeable, just not brilliant; the restaurant’s real draw is its superb setting and excellent pianist and jazz players.

CAMELOT RESTURANT
Architecturally this place is awesome, you can’t miss this pseudo-medieval castle rising up from the surrounding Bahraini villas. Taste is a different matter, but this is Camelot after all. The medieval theme extends to the interior and the decor, but forget the roast hog on a spit and the straw on the floor, instead it’s all wooden chairs and tables, sofas in quiet corners and outside dining by the moat. The menu includes lots of vegetarian options as well as steak, fish and pork. The influence of the notorious Irish manager, Jim Lawless, can be seen in the inclusion of traditional Irish dishes, just like ‘the mammy’ used to cook.

JIM’S RESTAURANT
It seems apt in a food section to talk about such a thing as a missing ingredient. This is evident the moment you arrive. Walking into a narrow corridor, the hostess takes you off to the right where a cosy, intimate seating area can be found; some tables with a view of an open kitchen. The décor is an amusing mix, with Arabic touches such as the tableware and the colourful murals on the wall, while the restaurant logo features a four-leaf clover to signify the origins of many of the dishes, and of course of the man himself.
